Botulinum toxin is a prescription medicine that is injected into the muscle to temporally paralyze it and to improve the look of the glabella, the frown lines, the forehead lines and the crow’s feet.

This toxin is used under the name of two products:
• Botox (Allergan) made in Ireland
• Dysport (IPSEN) made in UK

These are the only two FDA approved products for Botulinum toxin. Other than the glabella line, forehead lines, and crow’s feet lines, Botulinum toxin can be used in different places to relax other muscles. It can be used to lift the tail of the eyebrow, to treat the gummy smile, to lift the corner of the mouse, to treat the chin, to treat the jaw line by doing the Nefertiti lift, to lift up the tip of the nose, to treat the bunny lines (wrinkles on the nose), to relax the platysma lines (neck bandes), the peri-oral lines (caused by smoking), and to relax the maxillary muscle (giving a more feminine look to the face and the jaw line).

The result can be seen within 48 hours, the final result will be seen in two weeks.
The effect of Botulinum toxin can last from 4 up the 6 months.
The actual injection procedure takes about 10 minutes.
The treatment does not require downtime or recovery. The patient will be able to go about the normal routine immediately after the procedure.

Hyaluronic acid is a gel that is used to be injected into areas of facial tissue where moderate to severe wrinkles and folds occur to temporarily add volume to the skin.
It is also used as a deep injection to correct the age related volume loss in adults.
The fillers are well known to be used to fill the volume around the nose and the mouth.
It is also used to fill in a very natural way the lips.

The main purpose and the new trend of fillers is to RESHAPE the face and to restore the facial volume loss.
There are many types of hyaluronic acid fillers depending on the concentration and the volumizing capacity of these fillers. They can be injected in the forehead, temple area, the tail of the eyebrow (to lift it), under the eye (to treat the tear trough and the dark circles) and naso-labial folds, to reshape the nose, to give volume into the chin while correcting the neck, to enhance and to give more definition to the jawline, and mainly to lift the face when injecting it into the cheekbone and into the jawline. Along with the injection of fillers and after the restoration of the volume loss of the face, threads (Silhouette Soft ®) can be inserted to enhance the lifting effect.

These threads have two major benefits:
• An immediate and discrete effect that can be seen instantly.
• The regenerative effect: through the reabsorption of the thread, the lost collagen is restored day after day to enhance the capacity of the thread in a very natural way.

LASERS

Lasers are extremely precise tools which can be used in various skin conditions.
Lasers are extremely precise tools which can be used in various skin conditions.

1. Permanent hair removal with laser has become the most popular medical laser application. The diode and alexandrite lasers are the most commonly used lasers for this condition.

2. Treatment of vascular lesions: lasers can be used to treat hemangiomas, telangiectasia, rosacea, veins and spider veins of the lower extremities.

3. Laser resurfacing: fractional resurfacing is a recent treatment approach that is used mainly for two conditions:
• Skin remodeling to give a better appearance and a lifted skin.
• Improvement of acne scars by treating the skin with fractional laser: the skin by itself will recover and improve the scars and the holes left by the acne.

The newest laser technique is available now to remove all types and all colors of tattoos.

ACNE
PROBLEMS

Acne vulgaris is a self-limited disorder of the pilosebaceous unit that is seen primarily in adolescents.
Acne vulgaris is a self-limited disorder of the pilosebaceous unit that is seen primarily in adolescents.
Most cases of acne present with a pleomorphic variety of lesions, consisting of comedones, papules, pustules, and nodules. Although the course of acne may be self-limiting, the sequelae can be lifelong,
with pitted or hypertrophic scar formation.

The age of onsent of acne varies considerably. It may start at early age or it may not appear under the age of 20 years or later. Although most patients clear by their early 20s, some have acne extending well into the third or fourth decades. Also in women, there is often changes in association with menses, with a flare just before the onset of menstruation.
Often, multiple treatments are used in combination to combat many factors of acne.

Topical agents (benzoyl peroxide, topical antibiotics, retinoids) can achieve a good result.
Systemic therapies (oral antibiotics) are often added to the treatment to achieve a better outcome. However when the acne is leaving scars, or is recurrent, or is very severe, isotretinoin (Roaccutane®),
is often installed with a well known regimen to give the best and definitive outcome.

PSORIASIS

Psoriasis is a chronic disease which is characterized by erythematous scaly papules and plaques.
Psoriasis is a chronic disease which is characterized by erythematous scaly papules and plaques.
The most common involved sites are the scalp, elbows and knees, hands, feet and nails.
Many treatments can be used in psoriasis, both topical and systemic.

Topical treatments (corticosteroids, vitamin D), are often initiated in the management of psoriasis.
Phototherapy can be used to achieve a good outcome in the treatment of psoriasis. Systemic oral agents (methotrexate, cyclosporin, acitretin) can also be used.
Based on the continuous progress in psoriasis research and advances, a new class of agents (Biological treatments) has emerged. These treatments allow the patient to achieve a fast and a very good result.

Other than all the medical dermatological conditions, sexually transmitted diseases are often a reason for the consultation in our dermatological clinic. Just for the information, we will name these diseases: HPV, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Herpes, Molluscum Contagiosum,…

Due to heavy sun exposure, we are noticing a majoration of incidence of skin cancers,
which can be divided into three types:
•Basal cell carcinoma: doesn’t give usually metastasis and is easily removed by surgical treatment.
•Squamous cell carcinoma: can give in rare cases diffuse metastasis.
•Melanoma: the most aggressive skin cancer which gives frequently diffuse metastasis.
If it is diagnosed in the early stages, the melanoma can be removed surgically.
